TILAT SUMDO – TSOMO PALDAR: it was one of second tough night far in my trekking career . First was my very first visit to Dayara Bugyal as I trekked till 10:30 P.M as stated trekking at 4:30 pm and in almost 3 feet of snow and one of the member fainted and we thought he is dead and one lost his mind and started saying he can’t feel his fingers due to frost bite … that was really scariest night of my life .. second one was on CHANDRATAAL as on September month I did not expected to drop the temperature to -14 degrees, I slept in sleeping bag in a half sleeves t-shirt and a half jacket only as that was all I have ,

Well but this was the third Dammn scary night as I could not sleep even for 15 min. due to acclimatization and change in temperature from +17 degrees to -18.8 … no one could sleep in night and just left the tent at 5 AM and sated walking as it was impossible to stand at one place fingers just freezes and body feels so much pain it was just unbearable …. Well left the place After the breakfast call at 7:15 am and an early departure by 8:00 AM, You will soon start recognizing where the Chadar is thick and where it is thin and dangerous.

the walk on the Chadar has fully started. Tsomo Paldar/Shingra Coma is almost 10 km away from Tilat Sumdo. The 10 kms can be covered in about 4 to5 hours. Mid way through the trek around noon, find a sunny section where your cook can dish out a quick hot meal of Maggie and tea . Hearing the different sounds of Chadar forming and breaking, you will also soon get familiar with chadar , as the sounds changes. till now I understand one thing its not just a ordinary trek … I don’t have to climb uphill but still it is very much life threatening . There can be certain sections where the Chadar has formed only on the real corners of the river and the corner is under a low over hang so had to climb mountains to cross that patches .

when you reaches the Shingra Koma , it is a big camping ground on your right as you walk up stream. Its right below a huge stone wall which is straight out of a hollywood movie. The Zanskar river takes a beautiful turn right in front of the camp site and sharp peaks rise on the other side of the river. Shingra Koma gets its name due to the abundance of a plant called as Shingra and suprisengly one frozen waterfall comes to our right side and where we have noticed the foot prints of a snow leopard ,
